Search engine optimisation got your pages ranked in a list of blue links. Agentic Engine Optimisation is the next problem along: when someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Google AI Mode a question, the engine fetches pages, reads them, and answers directly — citing the sources it trusted. Pages structured so a machine can retrieve, parse and quote them get cited. Pages that are not simply never appear, however good the content is.
Why can't AI just read my website?
Most AI crawlers fetch your HTML once and move on. They do not run your JavaScript, wait for your framework to hydrate, solve bot challenges, or retry. A page that renders in the browser can still hand an agent an empty shell — and to that agent, the empty shell is your website. The gap between what a person sees and what a machine receives is exactly what this tool measures.
What does the audit check?
Five things, weighted by how much they matter. Retrievability: whether readable text arrives in the HTML at all. Crawler access: whether robots.txt and meta directives let answer engines fetch and quote you — blocking training crawlers is a choice we do not mark down; blocking answer engines removes you from answers. Machine-readable meaning: structured data that states what the page is. Content structure: titles, headings and landmarks a retrieval system can chunk on. Answerability: canonical URLs, dates, sitemaps, llms.txt, and content shaped like the questions people ask.
What should I do with the result?
Each finding says what we saw, why an AI engine cares, and what to change, ranked by the points you would recover. Being readable does not guarantee being cited — but being unreadable guarantees you will not be. Fix the ranked list, re-run the check, and if you want the whole estate looked at rather than a sample, ask us for a detailed audit.
